Since my inception into computers (back in the days where the Intel 386 and a 20mb hard drive were all the rage) my curiosity has lead me to delve into many facets of computing, from 2D/3D graphics and web design to programming. I hold a Network Management Level 4 Certificate and worked for a short time administering systems and working on a helpdesk, in the end it just wasn't for me, my passion is in creativity!
Since I played Wolfenstein 3D and Doom I have always loved first person shooter games, I tried to fit in with the "in crowd" and play RPG's and such, but at the end of the day if you can't gib/be gibbed I really don't see the point.
My main interest lies with mapping, it all began when a friend introduced me to a Doom editor called ED209, using this I created 5 maps ranging from small to huge. A while after I began making maps for Quake 1/2/3, only 2 out of the 10 I created were made public.
I guess the appeal in mapping is that you take an empty void and fill it with something that not only appeals to you but a greater audience and is only limited by your imagination, well that and the rudiments of the game engine you're working with. This is where the appeal of the UDK comes from. After buying Unreal Tournament 3 and running around for at most 5 minutes I felt this was the new level I wanted to take my creativity to. With this project not only do I wish to map but to learn all facets of game design, development and marketing.
Cheers,
Nic
